I Tried to Outsmart My Anxiety—It Didn’t Work. Here’s What I Did
How I Stopped Letting Fear Run the Show (and a Simple Trick You Can Try Today)
Last month, I did something wildly out of character. I signed up for a public speaking club. 😅
Why on earth would you do that Fran?
Maybe to prove to myself that I could overcome the fear. That speaking (something I’ve never felt confident in) is a skill I can learn… even if I embarrass myself along the way.
And let me tell you, when I had to do my first speech, the anxiety was real. Heart racing. Hands shaking. My face as bright as a ripe tomato. 🍅😳
My mind was spiralling: What if I freeze? What if I sound ridiculous?
For so long, anxiety held me back from putting myself out there. And if you’ve ever experienced that overwhelming, heart-racing, I-want-to-run feeling, I know how hard it can be to figure out where to start. Anxiety isn’t always simple, it can be triggered by so many factors.
But one of the best things I’ve ever done for my anxiety? EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) tapping.

Why Tapping Works (and Why It’s Different)
Most anxiety advice focuses on managing the symptoms… deep breathing, distraction techniques, positive thinking. But EFT tapping goes deeper.

Try This Quick Tapping Trick for Anxiety Relief in The Moment
Next time you feel anxious, try this:
👉 Take turns tapping your thumb against each fingertip of the same hand.
Start with your index finger and thumb—tap them together for 3 seconds.
Move to your middle finger and thumb, tap for 3 seconds.
Then ring finger and thumb for 3 seconds.
Finally, little finger and thumb for 3 seconds.
I did this just the other day while walking in the park, and it instantly helped soothe my anxiety about a recent challenge I’ve been going through.
